Newton Circus isn’t just the name of a hawker center in Singapore. The Singapore-based indie alternative quartet has been compared to the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, The Notwist, and The National, with a sound meant for the lovelorn and wistful sentimentalist.
Comprising of Kenneth Ong (vocals, guitar), Colin Ong (guitar), Jefri Chua (guitar), and David Tan (drums, bass, synths), these handsome men recently launched new single Games — an anthemic reminder for all to live lightly and tread with brevity in the proverbial game of life — last week via independent record label Umami Records.
“With Games, we create the mind space to become children again, to play, to set our curiosity free, to believe in the magical,”
– Kenneth Ong, frontman
Games comes after releasing another single, Cellophane, in September this year. Before that, Newton Circus took a year-long hiatus since releasing On & On in 2017, a four-track EP that has garnered positive reviews around the world, getting on rotation at stations like Los Angeles’s KPFK and Radio Canada. In Singapore, the title track also landed on Spotify Singapore’s Viral 50 chart.
